Our Youth Program
Our program currently has three distinct but integrated components.
There is a senior or Grade One band who's main focus is competition performances. The passing on of our musical tradition is very much part of the mission of the 78th Highlanders Pipe Band. The Grade
One band organizes and instructs two lower grade pipe bands (a Grade Three and a Grade Five band) which are primarily youth-oriented which participate in the regional Atlantic Canadian competition circuit and in Ontario.
In addition to performances in competition all three bands also regularly participate in regional parades and concerts.
The 78th has the most qualified instructors in the region and follow the Institute of Piping’s certificate program employed by the National Piping Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. Currently, we have 25 people under the age of 18 in our bands and instructional system.
